  • Mortgage disputes between a debtor and a mortgage company
  • Disputes involving car payments, school loan payments, or other debts
  • Filing for a consumer bankruptcy under Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 of the Bankruptcy Code
  • Understanding how a bankruptcy effects your credit report
  • How to buy a car again or obtain a credit card again after a bankruptcy

Understanding Your Credit

Yes, if you file for bankruptcy, it will appear on your credit report for approximately 10 years. Additionally, filing for bankruptcy does not remove placement of past due payments that were reported on your credit report. However, there is hope. Although a mortgage company, bank, credit card company, or other loan agency will be able to access your credit report and view your previous credit history, it does not mean that you will be disproved for a loan, mortgage, or vehicle. Lenders generally put more weight on whether an individual has sufficient income rather than what their credit report states.
